Biography
Mr. Goenner grew up in Elk River, Minnesota. He was the 4th child of 12 and enjoyed being raised in the country on the shores of the Elk River. There, he developed a passion for fishing, kayaking, and love of family. In high school, Mr. G. was active in wrestling, choir, drama, National Honor Society, President of the bowling league, and Youth Group church functions.
Mr. Goenner graduated from Elk River Sr. High School in 1975 and attended the University of Minnesota in Duluth. That is where he met his spouse (Bev) and graduated with a BAS in Elementary Education with a collateral field in Music.
Mr. G. taught grades 4 and 5 for eight years in Cold Spring, Mn. before moving to Duluth in 1988 to teach another twenty-eight years of grades 4-6 in math and science. During those years he conducted a 65 student 3-part harmony school choir, ran an AM latch-key program, and was the computer coordinator/ instructor for the school.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Goenner retired from their jobs in Duluth and moved to the Isle area in 2016 to be near their children and grandchildren. After teaching Special Education in Onamia for one year, they bought a house in Isle, MN, and Mr. Goenner was hired by the Isle School District as a Special Education Teacher for the high school. Bev teaches piano from her home, plays piano for church, and substitute teaches for paras in the Isle Elementary School district.
Mr. Goenner recently obtained Summa Cum Laude (4.0+) with a Master of Science in Education in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin in Superior.
